• 12/9/09

  So did anyone ever get like crazy upset at the nicu/icn people ?

  today Elias had his swallow study done, and the only reason I agreed to let him have it done is because they sad I could be there with him.

  So today I remeber when I' am abot halfway to getting my hubby from work that I need to remind them to call me when they found out when the swallow study is going to be, and when I call they tell me it is going to be at 2:30 this is at 2:08 my hubbys work is 15- 45mins away depending on traffic. today it was about 15 there 20 back.

  so anyway I ask them to wait for me so I can be there to be the one to feed him durring the test (not that it was a bad idea to wait considering that we had just tryed to feed him at 1) so it would be a better result considering dad and I are going to be the only ones feeding him when he comes home.

  So when it is 2:30 I have my hubby call to say we are about 15 mins out and they go on to tell him that they already took him early infact and that they don't let parents go anyway, even though the speech person told me I could be there & that it was better if I was there, but my nurse today said the speech person today said I couldn't have been there.

  So to say the least I was rather upset, I was crying and overly emotional and according to my hubby being crazy mom.

  But I really did try to be as calm as I could be when I was on the phone with them. and to say the least i told them they arnt allowed to do any non emergent things out of the daily routine unless I' am there first.

  Btw. this is my first crazy upset / crazy mom moment.

  So Elias had his surgery on the first (12/1) and he was re-intabated and it took him a number of days for him to wake up and a few days to get food and a few feeds after that before they let him have the bottle. 

  So now it has been 4 days and he has not ate more then 15-20cc for the nurse's & 20-30 for my hubby & I so speech came today and he tried 5cc of thinned  & she wasn't ok with his reaction so we tryed 5cc nector thick and he wasn't doing the greatest so we tried a different bottle & he did better, but we are going to do a feed study ( I forget the actual name)

  She is baffled at why he has had such a big change even though he is doing fine post opt wise we just can't figure it out.I mean he went from half his full feeds being by bottle to 15-30 every other feed.

  all he has to do is eat and he can come home.

  Elias is doing well we are on are second day of medicine treatment for his PDA & he is handing the meds well he gets his last dose tonight then they will do another heart ultra sound tomorrow to see if it is closed, better, or if nothing has happened, if it is closed then YAY if it is better but not closed they will do another round of meds then check it again, if it is not better at all they will have to do surgery.Also since they are treating the PDA right now they have him on the breathing tube & are keeping him a little more sedated to try and let the meds work. they also put him back under the light for jaundice though they said he will not need to for long.

  Elias has been in a fightsty mood today, they checked his PDA and it has got better but not all the way so they are going to do another round of the med's then check it again. Also he pulled out his breathing tube allot of the way today, then a little way a little bit later. So like I said he has been in a fighsty mood today.  But when I left the nicu today he was all snuggled up and cute :)

  Elias has another calm day, he only tried to pull his breathing tube once today. He is got his last dose of med's for his PDA before they check it again today. Also they are checking about a possible infection that is affecting his lungs &...and; breathing they know there is something going on they just can't figure it out, they where taking extra blood last night to run some test's.

  So last week my Hubby and I got visited by the pediatric surgeon while we where visiting  Elias & talked about getting his hernia surgery done along with his circ. so we signed some forms while she was there so she would be able to answer anything then she said on monday they would get his surgery scheduled  & let us know, Well I got a call this am and they are going to do it tomorrow (12/1)  at 1pm.

  So to say the least I'm pretty super nervous, the good thing is my mom will be in town (even though she can't go see him) bad thing is since it is such short notice my hubby might not be able to get off work for it (as he is training someone)

  Another reason I'm nervous is because it is surgery; I mean it took me 21 years to have my first surgery (my c-section) and my hubby has never had any and here our son is going to have one before he is 3 months old.

  So as anyone who read my journal knows Elias had his hernia surgery & circ. yesterday and well time seems to be moving even slower then normal he is stil on the vent and hasn't really woken up yet and I can't hold him or even really touch him until after the vent comes out & it sucks.

  it seems like it is taking forever for his to wake up & get off the vent.

  I just got home from a visit with Elias and I found a note from the hearing doctor that he passed his hearing test with flying colors!!! (ok maybe not in those same words) and a few weeks ago he passed his eye exam & his eyes where mature for his gestational age!!!!
